Enjoy the scenic drive to the Mount Kenya region – and to either Chogoria or Nanyuki, depending on your preferred itinerary. Mt Kenya National Park is a World Heritage Site and the natural wonder from which the country is named. You will have the option to climb Africa’s second-highest peak, an extinct volcano with glacier-clad summits on the equator. Our favorite route to ascend the mountain is the Chogoria – Sirimon route, which traverses the park from east to north and takes you through a breathtaking landscape of montane forest, bamboo thicket, moorland, highland tarns and glacier-formed U-shaped valleys. Mt. Kenya has distinct vegetation zones, which harbor an astonishing array of flora and fauna. Highlights include colorful wildflowers, giant groundsels and lobelias among at least ten endemic plants. Its dense forests shelter elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, leopards, bushbucks and the elusive black-and-white colobus monkey.
