James Ole Kinyaga
Senior Tour Guide, Movie Star
James knows wildlife and he knows and loves the bush. He is also our very own movie star! Raised in the remote wilderness of Il Ngwesi, he developed an innate sense for the environment that surrounded him. As a young man he became a herdsman, rich in the Maasai tradition. He is an excellent communicator on Maasai culture and his upbringing in Laikipia. James’ passion for conservation extends to the big screen where he starred in the 2009 documentary film, Milking the Rhino. The film tells a story of wildlife conservation in Africa from the perspective of those who coexist with them.
What we care about
-
Community
Blessed with a rich diversity of peoples and cultures, Kenya is home to the Maasai, Samburu, Kikuyu, Mijikenda and Meru who are among some but not all of the ethnic groups who live in the country’s most iconic places to visit. Their ancient homelands support the biodiversity that makes Kenya famously unique. At Sacred Savanna, we strive for enriching interactions between our visitors and the local communities. Our carefully curated experiences honor these groups as knowledge keepers and we endeavor to seek out partnerships that benefit our visitors and their hosts - the Kenyan people.
-
Conservation
Synonymous with wildlife, Kenya plays a leading role in protecting globally significant populations of rare mammals, birds and their habitats. Our safaris aim to educate you about the threats to these endangered species, while building appreciation for the many innovative, often community-led, conservation efforts. Sacred Savanna carefully selects lodges and conservancies where a significant portion of income is channeled directly to conservation. And our knowledgeable guides will help you understand the delicate balance between people and nature in the places you visit.
-
Your Impact
With Sacred Savanna you will walk in the footsteps of our ancestors and like them, leave as light a print as possible. This means engaging with the natural environment as sensitively as we can and respecting it as a delicate and precious resource. Moreover, we believe our presence should have a positive impact on those to whom this land has been entrusted. We strive to create experiences that uphold these principles while never compromising on our desire to provide you with the most awe-inspiring, sensory awakening and soul-restoring adventures now and for generations to come.
