DAY 1

NAIROBI

Arrive in Nairobi, where you will begin and end your safari.

Depending on your international flight times, you will likely spend one full day here either at the start or end of your trip.

Recently named the world’s best city to visit in 2024 by Lonely Planet, Nairobi is Kenya’s bustling, dynamic, cosmopolitan capital.

Wildlife - “The World’s Only Wildlife Capital”. Visit Nairobi National Park or one of Nairobi’s world-famous animal sanctuaries such as the Giraffe Centre, Elephant Orphanage, Nairobi Safari Walk, Snake Park, and Karura Forest.

Culture - Experience the city’s cultural and arts scene with a visit to an art gallery or collective, artisanal market, the National Museum or Karen Blixen Museum, or sample its world-class restaurants.

 

DAYS 2-4

SAMBURU

NAIROBI - SAMBURU 6H (ROAD)

Arrive in Nairobi, where you will begin your journey to Samburu - the start of your safari.

Samburu National Reserve stretches along the Ewaso Nyiro River, which acts as a magnet for wildlife in search of water, vegetation, and prey. The reserve is a haven for birds, with over 400 species of resident and migrant birds, including many dry country specials such as the Somali ostrich, as well as 47 birds of prey.

Vulturine guineafowl, sandgrouse, and hornbills can be seen in the plains, while African orange-bellied parrots and palm-nut vultures are observed in the doum palms that line the Ewaso Nyiro River.

DAYS 5-6

LAKE NAKURU

Lesser Flamingos Lake Nakuru

From Samburu, you will journey to the Great Rift Valley to visit its most famous soda lake, Lake Nakuru. This lake is renowned as one of Kenya's oldest and most famous National Parks. It is known around the world for its flamingos, which are found in their thousands (sometimes millions).

Waterbirds are abundant, and include both great white and pink-backed pelicans, many storks, egrets, herons, ducks, and cormorants.

Aside from the lake, the park contains a variety of ecosystems – rocky escarpments, pockets of acacia forest, and woodlands – drawing more than 400 species of birds.

DAY 8

LAKE BARINGO

LAKE NAKURU - LAKE BARINGO 2.5H (ROAD)

Continue your safari with a drive north up the Rift Valley to Lake Baringo - a freshwater lake.

A staggering 480 bird species have been recorded here, which makes Lake Baringo a world-renowned avian hotspot. A striking landscape that features several small lake islands, drowned trees fringing the shore, acacia woodland, grassland, and a nearby escarpment gives rise to this incredible species richness.

African fish eagles and local specialties including lesser moorhens, giant kingfishers, Hemprich’s hornbills and brown-tailed rock chats are in abundance.

Enjoy a boat ride and take in the beauty of this magnificent lake and its surroundings. Lake Baringo is a huge draw for anyone interested in East Africa’s stunning array of birdlife and it provides a wonderful ending to this special safari.
